Dodge Avenger Power Steering Rack Parts
The Dodge Avenger Power Steering Rack has a cylinder that encloses a piston, to turn the vehicle's wheels. The piston divides the cylinder which receives pressurized fluid from the steering pump. The fluid flow is controlled by a spool-valve. When the steering wheel is idle, the hydraulic fluid flows around the valve and out to the reservoir. There is a slight, but equal pressure on both sides of the cylinder and hence the piston is at rest. As the steering wheel is turned, its movement is detected by the spool-valve. The steering wheel twists the torsion bar attached to it and the pressurized fluid flows to one side of the piston. At the same time, the fluid on other side of the piston flows to the reservoir. This action forces the rack to one side, thereby turning the automobile's wheels. When the steering wheel returns to the center, the spool-valve returns to neutral.
