Buick, a premium vehicle marque of General Motors, is one of the oldest automobile manufacturers in the United States. It began as an internal combustion engine and motor car manufacturer, Buick Auto-Vim and Power Company, in 1888. It was incorporated into the Buick Motor Company in 1903 by David Dunbar Buick. The company has its headquarters in Detroit, Michigan. The earliest models built were two prototypes in the years 1901 and 1902. In 1904, the company rolled out the Model B, which was the first Buick to hit the markets. William C. Durant, who had taken over the reins in 1904, formed General Motors, a holding company in which Buick held a prestigious position.

Buick managed to hold its own during the economic slump of the Great Depression owing to its up-to-date and high-performance lineup. In 1931, Buick released the OHV Straight-8 Engine in all its models and in 1939, the company became the first to equip its cars with turn-signals. After the Second World War, Buick released the Roadmaster Convertible, the first car to feature portholes on its fender. 1953, which was Buick's 50th anniversary, saw the release of the Roadmaster Skylark. The LeSabre, Invicta and Electra, three of the brand's popular models, were rolled out in 1959. The company began to reduce the number of models in its lineup and by 2005, only three models from the company's original lineup remained: the LeSabre, Lucerne and Enclave. The current models of the brand include the Verano, Regal and LaCrosse.
