The Mercury Cougar is the name given to a series of automobiles manufactured between 1967 and 2002. Established in 1938, Mercury was one of the successful car brands of Ford Motor Company. It was headquartered in Dearborn, Michigan. Mercury Eight, the company's first car was manufactured in 1939. 1960 models like the Comet and Meteor, boosted the brand's sales. With the launch of the Mercury Cougar in late 1960s, the brand gained more popularity. It also rolled out the Mercury Capri and Bobcat in the 1970s and the Lynx and Grand Marquis in the 1980s to handle the decade's fuel crisis. In 2008, the brand's sales dropped and in 2011, Ford discontinued the Mercury brand.
