The Oxygen Sensor Kit comes with the oxygen sensor and its associated parts. The oxygen sensor is a component of the automobile's emission control system. It helps to regulate the amount of air and fuel that enters the engine combustion chamber to achieve optimal efficiency. The sensor also serves the purpose of controlling the emission of hazardous pollutants. It is fitted in the exhaust pipe. Modern automobiles are fitted with as many as eight oxygen sensors.
The ratio of air and fuel that produces the maximum efficiency in an engine is called a perfect ratio. There are two kinds of air-fuel mixtures in the engine combustion chamber: rich and lean. The mixture is rich when the amount of air is lesser than perfect ratio. It leaves unburnt fuel in the combustion chamber which produces pollutants like air-borne hydrocarbons. The mixture is lean if there is more air than that in the perfect ratio, which emits pollutants such as oxides of nitrogen. If rich and lean mixtures are detected, the Engine Control Unit (ECU) regulates the air-fuel ratio to attain the perfect ratio.
An oxygen sensor gets affected due to factors such as road debris and oil ash. A bad oxygen sensor will fail to sense the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gases. This will result in an improper air-fuel ratio, eventually decreasing the engine efficiency. Common symptoms of a faulty oxygen sensor include engine pinging, rough idling, excess fuel consumption and increased emissions. A visible indication of an affected sensor is the lighting up of the engine indicator light on your vehicle's dashboard. If you find any of the aforementioned signs, you should consider replacing your oxygen sensor. At Buy Auto Parts we stock a wide variety of oxygen sensor kits for every car make and model.
