More info

The Parking Sensor is a proximity sensor that helps you to park your vehicle safely by alerting you of the presence of obstacles. Parking sensors are usually installed on both the front and rear bumpers. The front sensor is operated by a manual switch that can be turned on when the vehicle needs to be parked. It is deactivated automatically when the automobile attains a certain forward speed. The rear sensor is connected to the reverse gear. As soon as the reverse gear is engaged, the sensor starts operating and is deactivated when the gear is disengaged. There are two kinds of parking sensors: ultrasonic and electromagnetic.

Ultrasonic sensors emit radio waves which get reflected by the obstacle or object and travel back to reach the sensor. Based on the time taken for the radio waves to reflect back, the sensor evaluates the distance between the car and the object. The sensor emits a warning beep when you get too close to an obstacle. Some automobiles also feature LED or LCD screens to display the proximity of obstacles. Electromagnetic sensors use electromagnetism to detect obstacles and warn you through various levels of alarm tones depending on the proximity of the object.

The parking sensor should be installed at a proper height and cleaned periodically for its proper functioning. One of the common problems with a parking sensor is the blind spot which occurs due to a hindrance or another object between the sensor and the receiver. You should replace a faulty parking sensor at the earliest to ensure safe parking. At Buy Auto Parts we stock a wide variety of parking sensors for every car make and model.
