Air Conditioning Compressor

The Air Conditioning Compressor is the heart of your AC system. The compressor is a pump which regulates refrigerant gas throughout the AC system. It compresses the freon gas by putting it under extreme pressure. It is located between the high pressure and low pressure sides of the air conditioning system. It has a pulley that is powered by a drive belt connected to the engine's crankshaft. The pulley has a clutch that is linked to the compressor's input shaft.

When the car's AC system is switched 'on', the clutch engages with the pulley to turn the compressor's input shaft. It has a rotor that pulls the refrigerant gas from the low pressure side of the AC system and forces it to the opposite side. Forcing the gas to a small area increases its pressure and temperature.
