WAX ON WAX OFF

May 16, 2013 - Yep, it’s that time of year again. Of course, maybe you’re one of those wonderful conscientious car caretakers who wax more often. Great job. But, if you’re not, than at least take care of your investment before the summer sun starts beating down on it.

Why should you wax your vehicle?

How do you know if your convertible top is fabric or vinyl? What do you do to take care of it? How do you do it? When?

There are actually several really good reasons to wax your vehicles at least once or twice a year. Depending on whether you are thinking more aesthetically, logically, or egotistically as to which reason is the most important to you.

Your rhyme and reason may change from time to time, but bottom line is, here are the top 5 reasons to give your vehicle a good wax job.

1. Protect the Paint Job

- Wax helps lessen the risk of paint chipping(cleaning off the dirt)

- Wax affords some additional protection from flying debris, bumps, and nicks

2. Prolong the Color and Shine

- Paint color remains truer longer when cared for correctly

- The beauty of seeing your reflection in your hood is indescribable(fabric or vinyl)

3. Protect From Environmental Damage

- Salt

- Sun

- Airborne Pollutants

4. Cover Scratches

- Wax won't remove scratches

- Does help cover and hide

- Shine helps to further mask any surface scratches

4. Makes Washing Easier

- Wax helps the dirt not to stick deeply in the paint pores.

- Dirt and grime wash off much easier

4. Makes Washing Easier

Is there any one type of car wax any better than the next one? It all depends on who you ask.

Honestly, in many surveys there is very little difference in the opinions expressed from wax to wax. Some like paste better. Some like liquid. One thing that does seem to be a basic standard is that the ones rated with the best durability seems to be pastes.

The best rule of thumb from what readers and reviewers give us in feedback is to find something you like and stick with it. Price doesn’t necessarily indicate better. You find something you’re happy with, if it does a good job, stay there.
