Brake Pad Sensor Set
The Brake Pad Sensor Set consists of the brake pad and the wear sensors. The brake pad, which is a part of your vehicle's disc-brake system, is attached to the brake calipers. It is a steel backing plate that presses against the brake rotor to stop or slow down the vehicle when the brakes are applied. The frictional material on the brake pad is transferred to the spinning rotor and thereby increases the friction between them to effectively stop the vehicle.
Over time, as the frictional material on the brake pad begins to thin out, it will become necessary to replace the brake pads. The brake pad sensor, which is a 2 wire device is fitted on the brake pads to monitor the state of the brake pads. The sensor is mounted so that after a certain amount of wear on the brake pad, the first wire in the sensor makes contact with the rotor. This ECU records this first event and estimates when the second wire in the sensor will reach the rotor. When the second wire touches the rotor, the ECU lights up the brake pad warning light on the dashboard.
A worn brake-pad can cause excessive friction between the rotor and the pad, resulting in a squealing sound when you press the brakes. The sound is an indication that your brake pads need to be replaced soon. If your pedal seems hard when pressed or if you sense a vibration in the pedals while braking, it is an indicator that your brake pads are at fault. Worn or damaged brake pads should be replaced immediately to prevent the complete failure of your braking system.
