Cadillac A/C Compressor by Model
+When you are driving in your Cadillac in the hot, humid months of summer the best part about is that cool air provided to you by your air conditioning. The last thing you need is a broken air conditioner that makes car rides feel like you have gotten stuck to the seat. It is important to maintain air conditioners in your vehicles by running them every few days, even in cold months, and making sure there is enough refrigerant. Your Cadillac’s AC system is very reliable because it designed to be that way but even then there are still things that can go wrong and cause parts inside your AC system to break. The most important part of your AC system is going to be your Cadillac A/C compressor. We will take a look at the function of it as well as what the other components do.
The Cadillac A/C compressor is the main component of your Cadillac AC system. It works along with the evaporator, condenser, thermal expansion valves, and the drier or accumulator. The main task of the Cadillac AC compressor is to circulate the refrigerant, in gas form, under pressure to concentrate the heat it contains. Low-pressure gas is changed into high-pressure gas in the Cadillac A/C compressor. The compressor is run by an engine belt and is operated by an electronic clutch that turns the compressor on and off.
The condenser in your Cadillac AC system acts like a small radiator and may also have its on electric cooling fan in some vehicles. The function of the condenser is to cool down the compressed air that passes through it turning the gas into liquid due to the cooling process the gas just went through. The evaporator does the opposite of the condenser; it warms up the refrigerant so that it turns back into gas form. The thermal expansion valve controls the flow of the cool refrigerant to the evaporator. This allows you to regulate how cold the air blowing out gets. The last component is the drier or accumulator. This component is a last defense to make sure no liquid gets into the compressor. The Cadillac compressor is pressurizing gas refrigerant and it not built for liquid refrigerant. If liquid refrigerant were to get in it would get damaged. So the drier or accumulator catches any liquid that tries to get back to the compressor.
Since your Cadillac A/C compressor is the most important component of your AC system it will also be the most costly one. If the compressor is broken it can start to break down and send metal debris to the other components of your Cadillac air conditioning system. So you want to make sure you get the compressor replaced if you notice your AC is not blowing out cold air.
