It was a rainy day the Tuesday you hydroplaned on a road and crashed your Dodge into a light pole. There was extensive damage to the front-end of your Dodge. One of the main parts you will need to replace is your Dodge control arms. Since you have a friend who is a mechanic he is going to do the repairs for you as long as you get him the part. You do not know much about control arms or where to get them from for a good price. This is where we come in to help you! Let’s take a look at what control arms do for the function of your Dodge and your options for Dodge replacement control arms.

The Dodge control arm set, lower and upper, connect the front suspension of your Dodge to the frame of the car. It is connected to the wheels through ball joints, and to the frame of the car through bushings. Usually the Dodge control arm set will be found on the front side of the car. You are looking to get Dodge front control arms since those are the set that got damaged in your accident. You want your Dodge control arm set replaced because they got bent in the accident and this causes the control arm to either rub against the wheel all the time or when turning it. So it does not make for ideal driving conditions because the wheels will not work with each other to turn at the same time.

Dodge control arms will either be latitudinal or longitudinal. In latitudinal control arms they will connect to the chassis of the vehicle and point outward. In longitudinal the control arms will control up-and-down movements of the wheel. There are two types of Dodge control arms we are going to look at: an A-arm control arm and a McPherson strut. The A- arm Dodge control arm attaches the suspension to the chassis of the car. There may be as many as three or four control arms when coil springs get used in both the front and rear suspension systems. A-arms can be used in different configurations and numbers. Two A-arms per wheel makes up a suspension system called a double wishbone suspension.

A McPherson strut suspension system will use one control arm at the bottom of the strut suspension and work together with a spring and shock absorber. A McPherson strut suspension can be used in both front and rear suspensions but it is normally only found in the front. In addition to support it also helps with steering.
