History of Ford Cars & Parts
The Ford Motor Company is an American automaker that was established by Henry Ford on June 16, 1903. It has its headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. The company currently encompasses the Ford and Lincoln brands for its commercial and luxury vehicles, respectively. Henry Ford's first venture into the automobile industry began with the short-lived Detroit Automobile Company, established in 1899.
The company was reorganized to form the Henry Ford Company in 1901. However, a falling out with his partners forced Henry Ford to leave the company. In 1903, with the backing of 11 other investors that included the Dodge brothers, Henry Ford formed the Ford Motor Company.
The first model manufactured by Ford was the Model A, a two-seater runabout. The Model K, Ford's first six-cylinder vehicle, was released in 1907. By 1913, Henry Ford had perfected the assembly-line which later came to be popularly known as "Fordism" around the world.
In 1922, Ford acquired the Lincoln Motor Company, expanding its luxury line. In 1932, the first V8 3.6 liter automobile was rolled out.
After World War II, the Thunderbird was rolled out in 1955, followed by the Edsel in 1958. The Falcon, rolled out in 1960, was a huge success for Ford, competing with similar models released by GMC and Chrysler. The Mustang, released in 1964, introduced the "pony-car" to the American automobile market. The '70s saw the introduction of the Granada and the Fiesta. The Taurus, featuring an "aero design", was rolled out in 1985 and went on to become one of the brand's most popular models.
During this period, Ford went on to expand its lineup acquiring a number of companies including Aston Martin, Jaguar, Mazda and Volvo. In the 1990s, some of the brand's well known models such as the Aspire,Explorer,Focus and Escort were released. The 90s also saw the explosion of the online Ford parts market. Today, Ford's line of pickup trucks continues to perform well, along with peppy passenger cards like the Focus.
