Windshield Wiper Motor
The Windshield Wiper Motor powers your car's windshields when they are turned on. Windshield wipers improve visibility while driving in rain or snow by sweeping across the windshield to give the driver an unobstructed view of the road. The constant back and forth sweeping motion is controlled by the windshield motor and the gear reduction set that powers the wipers, and the linkage that converts the rotational output of the wiper motor to the requisite sweeping motion of the wipers. A worm gear provides a gear reduction to upto 50 times more or less than the motor's torque.
The motor circuit also consists of an electronic circuit that senses the position of the wipers, and cuts the power off when the wipers are in the "down" position. This circuit also returns the wipers to the "down" position in between wipes. The windshield wiper motor is susceptible to damage due to water, dust or other debris entering the motor mechanism. This would disrupt the smooth working of the wipers, causing it to get stuck mid-wipe or fail to start when the driver turns the wiper switch on.
If you find that your wipers are not functioning smoothly, get stuck mid-wipe or fail to return to the parking position when turned off, it is a possible indication of a fault in your windshield wiper motor.
