Camshaft Sensor

The Camshaft Sensor is a part of your vehicle's ignition system. It is located in the cylinder head of the engine and has a cylindrical probe that is suspended in the head. The camshaft sensor helps establish the fuel-injection and ignition coil-firing sequence in your car's engine, by sensing which cylinder is currently being fired. The camshaft sensor is a pickup coil sensor that is mounted next to a slotted wheel. Each slot in the wheel corresponds to a particular cam position.

When the camshaft moves, the sensor generates a series of pulses in relation to the camshaft position. These pulses are sent to the engine control unit (ECU) to determine the fuel injection and spark timings. The ECU also uses the data from the crankshaft sensor in conjunction with the data from the camshaft sensor to get an accurate picture of the engine's running status.

If your camshaft sensor is damaged, it will cause the ECU to misread the incoming data and thus, wrongly determine the ignition and injection timings. This will cause your engine to misfire and suffer a loss of power. If your engine stalls or fails to start, or experiences a delayed acceleration, it is a possible indication of a faulty sensor. You should replace a poorly functioning camshaft sensor at the earliest to avoid any further damage to your engine. At Buy Auto Parts we stock a wide variety of camshaft sensors for every car make and model.
