Your Hyundai gets you everywhere you need to be. It is your only vehicle so you make sure to take good care of it. Your Hyundai is an older car close to reaching the 100,000-mile mark. You know that over time there are parts you will need to replace, as it gets older. One part of your Hyundai that you think it starting to go is your Hyundai shock absorber. You have noticed things like uneven tire wear, even though you have had them rotated, there is also some nose diving that occurs when you brake or slow down. You know these can’t be good signs. It is good that you are noticing them early so you can avoid any further damage. Let’s take a look at the function of a Hyundai shock absorber and the different types.

The Hyundai shock absorber is a part of your suspension system. Its main function is to absorb or dampen the compression and rebound of the springs and the suspension. So it is controlling the any unnecessary and excess spring motion that occurs. Another function of your Hyundai shock absorbers are to make sure that your tires are in contact with the road at all times. Road surfaces can be bumpy and uneven and your shock absorbers are there to take in all these uneven movements so you can have a smooth ride. Inside your Hyundai shock absorber is turning the kinetic energy of the suspension movement into thermal energy in order to be disbursed through the hydraulic fluid.

The two types of Hyundai shock absorbers you can have are a mono tube and twin tube, they can both have variations as well. Let’s first look at a mono-tube shock absorber. The mono-tube shock is a gas-pressurized gas that came into existence in the 1950’s. It consists of one only tube and comes in a coil format, but it has two pistons. The pistons are called the working piston and the floating or dividing piston. The two pistons will work in sync with each other inside the pressure tube to respond to any changes in the road. Both pistons also separate the shock’s fluid and gas components.

A twin-tube Hyundai shock absorber will have many variations. These can include basic twin tube, twin-tube gas charged, position sensitive damping (PSD), acceleration sensitive damping and coilover. All of these will use two tubes instead of one like the mono-tube and may have compression valves. One of the most common types of twin-tube shock absorbers is the twin-tube gas charged shock absorber.

Now a shock absorber is similar to a strut in terms of function but a vehicle will either come with shocks or struts. A strut will sometimes have a built in shock absorber inside. So make sure you get the proper Hyundai shock and strut set when you are looking to for Hyundai replacement shocks. So whether you need Hyundai replacement shock absorbers or a Hyundai shock and strut set make sure to check out our inventory page and pick the part that you need!
