The Maserati Spyder was a grand tourer produced from 2001 to 2007. Maserati is an automobile brand that specializes in the production of luxury vehicles. Established on December 1, 1914 in Bologna, its headquarters are now in Modena, Italy. Maserati's parent company is Fiat S.p.A. In the years 1939 and 1940, the brand's 8CTF won the "Indianapolis 500-Mile Race". The Sebring, a grand tourer with a coupe body style, was introduced in 1962. 2010 saw the introduction of the GranCabrio, a convertible version of the GranTurismo. Some of the current vehicles of Maserati include the Quattroporte, GranSport and Quattro.

The Maserati Spyder debuted at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 2001. It was equipped with a 4.2L V8 engine that generated a horsepower of 385 and 332 lb-ft of torque. The vehicle featured a 6-speed manual transmission and was available in a 2-door roadster body style. The Spyder was released along with another automobile named the Maserati Coupe. Both vehicles were commonly referred to as the 4200 GT. A modified version of the Coupe and Spyder, named the GranSport, was launched in 2004. The Spyder name was also used for a version of the Biturbo, that was introduced in 1984.
