Peterbilt is a truck manufacturer, started in the year 1939 by T.A. Peterman. Its headquarters are in Texas, United States. The company produces medium and heavy-duty trucks ranging from Class 5 through Class 8. The 260/334 was released for the on-highway market in 1939. After the death of Peterman in 1945, the firm was owned by seven individuals within the organization. Later in 1956, the brand was acquired by the Pacific Car and Foundry Company. The 1950s saw the introduction of the 281/351, which was known for its compact dimensions and easy access to the engine. The 379, unveiled in 1987, was one of the top-selling models of the brand. Some of the well-known models of Peterbilt include the 320, 378, 567 and 579.
Models of the brand are numbered traditionally beginning with “2” for single drive rear axle models and “3” for dual drive rear axle models. The brand also manufactures sleepers and the Unibilt sleeper, introduced in 1994, was equipped with an air suspension.
