HID Headlight Install

Installing headlights is an easy job which can be performed by any DIYer. However, while replacing headlights, it would be beneficial if you have a reference for installation, to make sure you do not forget anything important. If you are not confident about installing headlights on your own, it is always recommended that you have a licensed mechanic install the lights for you.

The following are the steps to install a high-intensity discharge light in your vehicle:

Step 1: Remove the original lamp from the vehicle.

About HID lights

High-intensity discharge (HID) lamps were widely used in automobiles from the late 1990s. These headlights work by creating an electric arc between electrodes. HID lights require as much as 25,000 V to start functioning. This voltage is generated by the igniter and inverter modules in the HID bulb, which amplify the 12 V received from the battery to the required higher level. Once the light is turned on, it requires a lower level of voltage, usually below 100 V, to sustain the functioning of the lamp. This is made possible by the presence of the metallic salts in the bulb assembly.

Advantages of HID lights

HID lights provide a superior lighting experience and cover a wider part of the road ahead than traditional halogen headlights. HID lights are often called Xenon lamps. They are also designed to last longer than halogen lights. The lifetime of HID lights is around 2,000 hours.

Note

  • Installing HID lights should be performed meticulously, as they can cause a glare on the oncoming drivers if not set at the right position.
  • If you are converting a halogen light assembly into a HID assembly, please make sure you have all the accessory components at hand before beginning the installation.
  • Never look directly into a xenon bulb when it is on, as the light can hurt your eyes.

Some vehicles come with factory-fitted HID lights, while some do not. If you are looking to replace a halogen light with a HID light or replace a defective HID light, you have come to the right place. You can purchase your HID headlights for your vehicle by selecting the right year, make and model of your car. Each specific HID light page lists all the details of the lamp such as its dimensions and weight. It also includes pictorial representation of the HID light from various angles. This will give you a clear idea of what your HID lamp looks like. We also provide various shipping options such as Second Day Air and Next Day Air, from which you can select your choice of service, depending on how early you need your part delivered.
