Our Performance Pro Takes A Ride Up The Pacific Coast Highway

Jonny, one of our knowledgeable pros recently took some time off to take a scenic summer ride up the Pacific Coast Highway on his stock 2001 Honda RC51 (1000cc V twin superbike).  The drive up the pacific coast highway in CA is known to be one of the most beautiful drives in the world. On tripadvisor.com, those lucky enough to have taken the drive up the coast have given the route a 5 star rating. So we asked Jonny some questions about his trip, to get the inside scoop on how it really is.
How long was the road-trip?

Road trip was about four days, I wanted to take my time and LOVED not being in a rush, there is something magical about just you and the bike out on the road with not a worry or care as far as time is concerned. You are allowed more time to socialize and meet other riders and bond with Mother Nature.

How far up the California Pacific Coast did you go?

I rode all along the coast up the 1 and 101, all the way to the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge. It was around 1200 miles total and it took 4 days.

What was your favorite part of the trip?

Favorite part I would say is the diversity of the atmosphere in each town and city I stopped at. The hospitality of the people I encountered and talking with fellow riders along the way and being able to share our mutual love for riding.  I was stunned by the beauty our planet has to offer that most (city) folk miss out on by the distraction of their city life dwelling.

Where did you stay?

The first stop was a campsite run by the county of Santa Barbara a little south of Carpinteria, California. The second night was in the city of San Francisco with a great friend of 12 years. Third night I was prepared to camp but got rained out, so ended up staying in a Motel off the cost by Monterey.

How was the weather?

This is the best part! I love the different micro climates and views with the changing weather patterns. Sunny, foggy, raining, sunny the changes never stopped. The best part was riding in the rain and fog through Big Sur on the way down. These are challenging roads on a sunny day….mix that with rain, fog, cliff drop-offs, and slick roads, and the ride was incredible and moving. I came back with a great love for all things Earth!

Would you recommend this drive to other riders?

In one word…..ABSOLUTELY!!  It’s more about the experience and doing it on your own and relaxing/enjoying the life you have been given and the love that is shared between ALL riders.

Any tips for potential road-trippers of the CA PCH? Must-Sees, must-dos, don’t-dos, travel tips for riders?

Stay away from the cities, get as close to the ocean as you can. Pack the essentials, but have a back-up plan in case, and over-budget for unseen expenses. Stop as many times as you can and just stare out as far as you can see. Take as many pictures and video as you can so that when you are older you can reflect on good times and experiences in your life. Also, a new set of tires and oil change is greatly recommended.

So, it definitely seems like a 5 star review for the ride from Jonny! You can sense the passion for the road in his responses. If you want to know more about Jonny check out his professional profile in our Get To Know Our Pros section CLICK HERE
