November 12, 2012 - The 2012 Honda Civic, the 9th generation of the model, was an utter disappointment in the eyes of the American media. They charged the car with a poor design constructed with cheaper materials than its predecessor. Despite terrible reviews, Civic sales were up to par for the fiscal year—apparently consumers didn’t pay much attention to the negative press. Regardless, Honda has been on a mission to remedy its image in the eyes of the media. In fact, Honda has released some images of the new design ahead of schedule, in hopes of generating some positive feedback before Civic debuts in late November.
The 2013 Civic was set to be released at the Los Angeles Auto Show at the end of this month, but images of the car have already begun to circulate around the internet. It looks as if the automaker took into account all the negative feedback from the previous edition, and has made the appropriate modifications. According to Honda, the newest Civic will offer “upscale and premium style.”
Nothing says class like chrome and with the new Civic, Honda went with the strategy of, “the more chrome, the better.” The 2013 Honda Civic will offer a restyled fascia, with a chrome accent below the front bumper. Among the new additions, are a black mesh grill, fog lights, and clear turn signals. More chrome will circumscribe the grill. The rear bumper has been redesigned, along with the trunk lid, diffuser, and taillights. Oh and more chrome, on the deck lid lip.
On the surface it seems like Honda has redeemed itself, but the full affirmation won't be complete until we get a look at the insides. Honda was smart to set the stage for its new Civic by releasing these images early. They have successfully whet the palates of the American media. With about 3 weeks left until the LA Auto Show, we have plenty of time to build the anticipation for the real debut of the new Honda Civic.
