Yesterday, The National Insurance Crime Bureau, NCIB for short, released their annual Hot Wheels report. This study takes stolen car information from law enforcement agencies around the country, and lists which year, make and model of vehicles are stolen the most. Whenever a car is reported stolen it makes this report.
The top ten stolen vehicles for 2011
1. 1994 Honda Accord
2. 1998 Honda Civic
3. 2006 Ford Pickup
4. 1991 Toyota Camry
5. 2000 Dodge Caravan
6. 1994 Acura Integra
7. 1999 Chevy Pickup
8. 2004 Dodge Pickup
9. 2002 Ford Explorer
10. 1994 Nissan Sentra
Newer cars do not make the lists because they are harder to steal due to new key technology. However, this advanced key technology does not make you immune to theft. Some thieves can figure out key codes which allow them to take off with your car. Overall thefts went down 3.3 percent from the 737,142 in 2010, and the amout of stolen cars are at their lowest since 1967.
The NICB recommends locking your car at all times, using car alarms, and tracking devices to protect yourself from being a victim of car theft.
