This gearbox has a 30 spline 3/4" shaft and has a ratio of 2.4 - 2.8 LTL (9.6:1 - 11.2:1).

This gearbox (82-00068 QR) is a quick ratio replacement that'll bolt in just like OEM, but has a quicker steering ratio for faster steering response; 2.5 turns lock-to-lock, rather than 3.5 for the stock gearbox.

Our brand new and remanufactured gearboxes both fit and perform identically. We offer both options for some more popular applications because some customers prefer a remanufactured OEM gearbox, but others may not have the original gearbox anymore and like that the new aftermarket gearbox does not require a core deposit or return.

By standard steering, do you mean non-power, or standard-ratio power steering? This gearbox (82-00068 QR) fits all 1977-1979 El Camino with factory power steering, and a housing cover held on by 4 bolts. There's also a version of this box that's kept closed with snap rings; this will not fit as a replacement for that model.

This gearbox is only tested and verified to fit models with factory power steering. You'll need to do some research to see what's required to add power steering to a manual steering car, but you will at minimum require a pump, both power steering lines, and most likely the linkage from a power steering car as well.
