A Glow Plug is a heating device that aids in starting a diesel engine. It is a long piece of metal that has a heating element at one end. When electric current flows through the element, it heats up and emerges a glow. The heat generated by the plug is used to raise the temperature in the cylinders. Diesel engines do not need a spark plug for their ignition stroke since diesel spontaneously combusts when it comes in contact with hot pressurized air.
