Hitachi Construction Machinery is a Japanese heavy-duty construction-equipment manufacturer that was established in 1970, when it spun off from Hitachi. Ltd. It has its headquarters at Tokyo, Japan. Although the company is currently independent of Hitachi, it was involved in the manufacture of construction equipment for its parent company in the '50s. It rolled out Japan's first mechanical excavator, the U106, in 1957. Following its separation from Hitachi Ltd in 1969, the company rolled out its first product which was the world's first hydraulic crane: the KH150. The company continued to expand its operations, establishing its first subsidiary in the Netherlands in 1972. In 1987, the EX3500 series, a class of super-size hydraulic excavators were rolled out.

In 1994, Hitachi Construction entered into a joint-venture with Euclid Company, to form Hitachi-Euclid which manufactured a series of dump-trucks and excavators. The venture eventually became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi in 1998, after Hitachi purchased all the shares from Volvo Michigan Euclid (VME). In 2000, the company released the ZAXIS series of e-excavators. The ZAXIS series won the "President's Award" from the Japan Construction Machinery Association in 2001. In 2008, Hitachi Construction rolled out Japan's largest dump-truck, the EH3500ACII.
