By the time of the Second World War, in 1937, Perkins manufactured the P4 and P6 series of engines. In 1959, Perkins was acquired by Massey Ferguson and in 1994 it became a subsidiary of LucasVarity. The brand was purchased by Caterpillar in 1998.

The brand's P4C engine was popular in Israel and Europe for commercially driven cars and taxis during the '50s and in the beginning of the '60s.
