Differential Spindle

The Differential Spindle is a component of your automobile's suspension system. It allows the axle to rotate while keeping the wheels attached to the vehicle. The spindle acts as a surface for the wheel bearings to roll on. It is usually made of steel to withstand the heavy-weight of the vehicle. The spindle is found in automobiles with full-float axles. In some suspension systems, the spindle allows the housing of the shock absorber to turn the car's wheels. Depending on the kind of suspension mechanism, the spindle may be attached to an arm in the suspension frame's front and back, or to the lower and upper A- shaped arms.

In most automobiles, the wheels connect to the spindle through the hubs. In some vehicles, the wheels are directly attached to the spindle without wheel hubs. They are known as spindle mount wheels.

Over time, the spindle may bend or break due to excessive heat developed in the wheel bearings when the vehicle takes a sharp turn. A bad spindle will cause uneven tire wear or emit a grinding/popping noise from the wheel area. If you find any of the aforementioned symptoms, you should consider inspecting the spindle and replace it, if required. At Buy Auto Parts we stock a wide variety of differential spindles for every car make and model.
