Tranmission Shifter Control Module

The Tranmission Shifter Control Module or Transmission Control Unit (TCU) is a part of your vehicle's automatic transmission system. It uses the data from various sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) to determine when the gear needs to be changed in order to keep the vehicle's performance and efficiency at its optimum level. The TCU has gradually replaced the hydromechanical controls in modern vehicles, thereby resulting in reduced emissions and better vehicle handling.

The TCU uses the inputs from sensors that are located in the engine and transmission, along with inputs from other control devices, to determine the time and the amount of shift. The sensors used include the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), Wheel Speed Sensor (WSS) and the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). These sensors provide the TCU with the vehicle's current velocity, true velocity and throttle position. In addition to these sensors, the TCU also uses the data from the Turbine Speed Sensor (TSS) and Transmission fluid Temperature sensor in determining the shift speed.

Your TCM can be damaged due to a voltage surge in the solenoids or water entering the control circuitry. If your transmission shift control module is defective, it will result in the failure of the automatic transmission system. Your car's transmission will be unable to respond effectively when you try to accelerate. If your vehicle displays any of the aforementioned symptoms, you should replace the tranmission shifter control module. At Buy Auto Parts we stock a wide variety of tranmission shifter control modules for every car make and model.
