It also serves as a mount for various devices like the multi-function switch, column lock, and column wiring. It is located underneath the dash area of the car. In the rack-and-pinion steering system, the steering shaft connects the steering wheel to the rack. In the recirculating ball system, it connects the steering wheel to the gearbox. In the power steering system, it connects the steering wheel to the rotary valve.
