Home> Ignition coil
The Ignition Coil in your car's ignition system is an induction coil. It is also known as a spark coil and is located on the right hand side of the engine, adjacent to the spark plug. It is basically a transformer, which creates a spark at the spark plug by converting the battery's low voltage to high voltage. It works in combination with a contact breaker to perform this action. The ignition coil is made up of a primary coil and a secondary coil that are wrapped one above the other.
When a low voltage electric current is passed through the primary coil, an electromagnetic field is built around the coil. When this low voltage current is interrupted by the contact breaker, the electromagnetic field collapses. This causes the electromagnetic field to pass over the secondary coil, where the magnetic field causes a high voltage. This voltage is then sent to the spark plugs through the ignition leads. If your car's ignition coil is not functioning properly, you must replace it at the earliest to avoid further damage to the ignition system. Buy Auto Parts stocks a wide selection of ignition coil replacements at affordable prices.
