A Mass Air Flow Meter (MAF) is used to measure the volume and density of air entering your car's internal combustion engine. It is an electronic sensor that sends signals to the engine control unit. The main purpose of the MAF meter is to calculate the amount of air drawn into the engine. It is attached to the air cleaner box and is located in the intake air stream, between the air cleaner and throttle body.
There are two types of mass airflow meters, the vane meter and the hot wire. Both these meters are used in Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) engines.
