Its headquarters were situated in Dearborn, Michigan. In 1939, the brand released its first car, the Mercury Eight. In the 1950s, the brand established itself as a maker of stylish and efficient vehicles. The 1960s saw the introduction of the Mercury Comet and Meteor. In the 1970s, Mercury responded to the oil crisis by releasing the Comet and Bobcat models. Mercury expanded its lineup in the '80s, and the 1986 Mercury Sable became a huge hit. Mercury's sales soared in the 1990s with the launch of minivans and SUVs. The company sales slumped in 2008 and in 2010, Ford decided to discontinue the brand.
The Mercury Marauder was rolled out as a model in the full-size mercury lineup from 1963 to 1965. It was powered by a V8 engine and a 3-/4-speed manual or 3-speed automatic transmission. It was offered in hardtop and sedan body styles. It was re-introduced in 1969 as a personal luxury car. The Marauder name was also given to a high-performance variant of the Mercury Grand Marquis manufactured from 2002 to 2004.
