History of AMC Cars & Parts

American Motors Corporation(AMC) was an automaker formed by the merger of Hudson Motor Car Company and Nash-Kelvinator Corporation in 1954. The company's headquarters were in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The firm manufactured cars, buses, military vehicles, major home appliances and lawn care products. In 1958, the company started manufacturing the Rambler American. In the same year, the vehicle won at the Mobil Economy Run, an event that tested vehicles' fuel efficiency. Ramblers were the highest selling models of AMC during the early 1960s and they helped the firm become financially stable. The Javelin and AMX were unveiled in the years 1967 and 1968, respectively.

The Pacer, introduced in 1975, featured a large glass area and a rounded shape that was quite different from the three-box designs of the era. 1979 saw the introduction of the Eagle, a four-wheel drive passenger car. The company partnered with Renault in 1980 to acquire financial assistance and source subcompact vehicles. The Jeep Cherokee (XJ), an unibody compact SUV, was launched in 1984. Some of the notable AMC models include the Ambassador, Hornet, Rambler, Pacer, Gremlin, Concord and the Spirit. The brand was acquired by the Chrysler Corporation in 1987 and renamed Eagle.
