History of Chevy Cars & Parts
Chevrolet, usually called Chevy, is a subsidiary of General Motors (GM). It was originally founded in Detroit by Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant in 1911 (Louis apparently convinced William to use his name, and that's probably a good thing - could you imagine the "Durant Camaro"? We can't either.). The first Chevrolet model, the Series C Classic Six, was released in 1911 and was in production till 1913. Chevrolet's distinct bow-tie emblem was first used in the H-series of vehicles in 1914. Durant and Chevrolet briefly separated in 1915 following some differences, before GM acquired the company in 1918. Chevrolet continued to pose stiff competition to Ford during the 1920s, '30s and '40s. The 1950s saw the brand release the Corvette, a two-seater sports car that made its debut at the New York Auto Show. Despite how far Chevrolet had come to this point, we're still decades away from the first online Chevrolet parts!
The Impala, with its distinctive symmetrical triple tail-lights, was released in 1958. This was also the decade in which the brand released the small block V8 engine, that went on to power most of GM's cars and trucks over the next 50 years. In 1960, Chevrolet released the Corvair, a compact automobile that featured a rear-mounted, air-cooled engine. The Camaro, a pony car, first rolled off the assembly lines in 1966. In the late 1990s, the average consumer could buy a Chevrolet part online. This would soon revolutionize the way Chevrolet parts were bought and distributed. The late 2000s saw the company recover from the economic slump of 2007-2010, and in 2010, Chevrolet released the Volt, a plug-in electric car. The car won the "World Green Car of the Year" in 2012.
The Cruze, Impala, Silverado and Tahoe are some of the popular models of the brand.
