Compressor Control Module

Compressor Control Module

The Compressor Control Module, a part of the air suspension system in your vehicle, controls the air compressor and regulates the inflating and deflating of the air springs. An electronically controlled suspension system makes use of height sensors that determine the ride-height of the chassis. Using the data from the height sensors, the compressor control module assesses the amount of air that should be sent to the suspension air springs. When a load is exerted on the chassis, the height sensors signal the compressor control module that the ride height is below the normal value. The control module turns the compressor on and a solenoid valve in the air springs opens to let the air in.

When the ride-height has been reached, the control module stops the compressor and the solenoid valve closes to retain the air within the air springs. Similarly, when the load is removed, it causes the height sensors to send a signal to the compressor indicating that the ride height is above normal. This induces the compressor to open the solenoid valve to release the air from the spring bringing the chassis down to normal ride-height. The solenoid valve then closes to prevent any further air from leaving the spring. A failed compressor control module will cause the suspension to fail.

If you find that your ride getting rougher or if your vehicle fails to return to normal height ride, you should ensure that your compressor control module is still doing its job. If your control module has failed, you should replace it at once to prevent your suspension system from sustaining further damage.
