History of Jaguar Cars & Parts
Jaguar Cars is a British multinational automaker that is owned by Jaguar Land Rover Automobiles, PLC. It was established in 1922 by Sir William Lyons. It is currently headquartered in Whitley, Coventry. The company was initially founded as the Swallow Sidecar Company, a company that manufactured motorcycle sidecars. Following a merger with the Leyland Motor Corporation, the company was renamed to British Leyland in 1975. It 1984, the company became independent under its own brand name. The earliest automobile manufactured by the brand was a 2.5 litre saloon, the SS Jaguar. After the Second World War, the company grew in popularity when it released the XK120. The Mark VII, a four-door sports saloon, was unveiled at the London Motor Show in 1950.
This was followed by the launch of the XK140, a replacement for the XK120, in 1954. The E-type, launched in 1961, established Jaguar as one of the forerunners in the sports car segment. In 1968, the XJ6, a full-size luxury car was launched. The brand rolled out the XJ-S, a sports car, in 1975. In 1989, Ford purchased the company. In 1992, Jaguar released the XJ220, a 2-seater super-car. The company added the S Type and X Type series to its lineup in 1999 and 2001, respectively. In 2007, Ford announced its intention to sell Jaguar, and following a string of failed deals, the brand was bought out by Tata Motors in January, 2008.
Currently some of the popular models of the brand are F-Type, F-Pace, and XE.
