History of Land Rover Parts
Land Rover is a British automobile manufacturer that has its headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire. It was established in 1978 and is a part of the Lincoln Land Rover group, a subsidiary of Tata Motors.
The company's origins can be traced back to 1947, when Maurice Wilks, a designer at the Rover Company, designed the first prototype based on the Jeep. The Land Rover Series I made its debut at the Amsterdam Motor Show in 1948. The vehicle was an instant success for the Rover Company, outselling all its other models over the next decade. In 1958, the Series II was introduced, followed by the Series IIA in 1961. In 1967, Rover merged with Leland. The new merger joined the British Motor Corporation in 1968 to form British Leyland, thus unifying all the major British car manufacturers under a single company.
In 1970, the brand rolled out the Range Rover, the company's flagship model. In 1971, the Series III replaced the Series IIA. The 90" and 110" were introduced in 1983 and 1984, respectively. The company was sold to British Aerospace in 1988. It was only in 1990 that the company released the Discovery, the first new vehicle since the Range Rover. The 90" and 110" vehicles were rebranded as the Defender in the same year.
Later in 1994, BMW bought the Rover Group from British Aerospace. In 1997, the Freelander, a 4x4 was released to counter similar models released by Honda and Toyota. In 2000, BMW sold Rover to the Ford Motor Company. In 2003, Land Rover was named the "Greatest Car of All Time" by the BBC auto-show, 'top Gear'. Popular models of the brand include the Range Rover, Defender, Discovery and LR3/LR4.
