History of Mitsubishi Cars & Parts
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation is a multinational automaker that is a subsidiary of the Japanese conglomerate Mitsubishi Group of Companies. It was established in 1970 and has its headquarters in Tokyo. The brand originated in 1917 when the Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Company Ltd released a seven-seater sedan named the Mitsubishi Model A.
Following a forced break during the Second World War, the company returned to automobile manufacturing with the release of a three-wheeled cargo vehicle called the Mizushima. However, it was only in 1960 that the brand released its first compact four-wheel passenger car, the 500. This was followed by the Colt 1000, the first in a series of subcompact cars. In 1969, the brand rolled out the Galant, a compact sedan that was powered by a 4G3 Saturn engine. At this point, we're still 30 years from the first Mitsubishi part online!
In 1971, Chrysler acquired a 15 percent share of the company and began marketing the Galant in the United States as the Dodge Colt. The Lancer, one of the brand's best-selling models, was rolled out in 1973. One of the first vehicles to be sold in the United States under the Mitsubishi brand name was the Tredia, a 4-door subcompact sedan. The Cordia and Stanton coupes were also released in the American market, alongside the Tredia in 1982. The Pajero, a full-size SUV was also rolled out in 1982. In 1989, the brand released the Eclipse, a sports compact car.
The Outlander, a crossover SUV, was originally introduced as the Mitsubishi Airtrek in the Japanese markets in 2001. This model was a major catalyst for the fast-growing online Mitsubishi parts market. It was introduced to the United States in 2003 as a replacement for the Montero Sport. The Diamante, Cordia, Raider and Starion are some of the other popular models of this brand.
