History of Porsche Cars & Parts
Porsche is a German automaker and holding company that was established in 1931. It has its headquarters in Stuttgart. The company was founded by Ferdinand Porsche, an automotive engineer who is credited with creating one of the world's iconic vehicles: the Volkswagen Beetle.
In fact, the design of the Beetle was one of the first commissions undertaken by the company. The brand's first model, the Porsche 64, was released in 1939. It utilized many parts from the Volkswagen Beetle.
The Second World War saw the company turn to military vehicle and armor production. After the World War, following the arrest of Ferdinand Porsche, his son built the prototype of the 356 in 1947. The car hit the roads in 1948. The company enjoyed a considerable success in the racing circuit with the release of models such as the 550 Spyder in 1953.
It was in 1964 that the company launched its most well-known model, the Porsche 911. The car ran on an air-cooled, six-cylinder, rear-mounted "boxer" engine. In 1965, the brand discontinued the 365 and replaced it with the 912. In 1978, the 928, a GT sports car, was released with an intention of replacing the flagship model, the 911. The car featured a water-cooled, front-mounted V8 engine. However, the 911 still outlasted the 928, which was discontinued in 1995. In 1986, the 959 was rolled out as a sports car and later as a production car. In 1996, the two-seater roadster Boxster was released. In 2002, the company rolled out its first SUV, the Cayenne, a 5-seater mid-size luxury crossover. 2004 saw the release of the Carrera GT, a mid-engined sports-car which was named one of the Top Sports Cars of the 2000s by 'sports Car International' magazine.
Current popular models of the brand include the Cayman, Panamera, 911, and Macan.
