Hitachi Automotive Systems Limited manufactures a wide range of car information systems, drive control components, electric powertrain systems and engine management systems. With its headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, the company markets its auto parts across various locations in the world including the United States and Europe. The company is a part of Hitachi Limited, which provides services in various markets including information and telecommunication, social infrastructure, financial services and power systems. Hitachi has made its presence felt in the automotive industry since 1930, when it began the production of automotive electric parts. It was in 1964 that Hitachi established a separate division for producing automotive products.

Hitachi is synonymous with innovations in the automotive market. In 1970, the first kind of alternators featured with an IC regulator was introduced. The brand manufactured the first Japanese electronic control carburetors in 1978. In the succeeding year, Hitachi launched a global first: engine central control units. In 1980, the first photoelectric crank angle sensors and semiconductor pressure sensors were introduced. Hot-wire airflow sensors and turbochargers for rotary engines were first released to the market in the year 1981. The invention of hot-wire sensors fetched Hitachi the "IR100", an award for outstanding inventions.

In 1991, the company entered into a joint venture with Nissan and formed Xanavi Informatics Corporation, which focused on producing on-board information systems. Hitachi offered motors and controllers for the first electric car rolled out by Nissan in Japan. In the millennium year, Hitachi started manufacturing hybrid car systems. The brand released the first direct fuel injectors for battery cars in the same year. In 2002, the brand manufactured the first electric-powered four-wheel drive systems. 2002 also saw the development of the first map/route distribution service system for in-vehicle information terminals using mobile phones. The brand finished building one hundred million units of airflow sensors in 2007. Hitachi also advanced the security control systems in automobiles with the introduction of grip-type finger vein authentication technology and wheel-integrated finger vein authentication technology.

In motorsports, Hitachi has been a sponsor of the IndyCar Series, Japanese Championship Super Formula and Suzuka Circuit. The control units manufactured by Hitachi include engine control units (ECU) and transmission control units. The line of fuel system components produced by the company comprises high-pressure fuel pumps, high voltage DI-G injectors and fuel tubes. Hitachi's range of parts for vehicles with electric powertrain includes planetary gear reduction starters and lithium-ion batteries. Power steering pumps, reservoir-tanks, electric power steering gear and electric power steering control units for pinion assist and column-assist types fall under the brand’s steering line of components. Hitachi offers a wide variety of suspension components including shock absorbers, struts and self levelizers. Under its range of for brake systems, Hitachi offers disc brake calipers, vacuum boosters, anti-lock brake systems and other brake components.
