Sunbeam was an automobile marque that was established in 1888 in Wolverhampton, England. The company was registered by John Marston, originally as a bicycle manufacturer. In 1899, on the advice of his right-hand man, Thomas Cureton, Marston drafted the specifications for a prototype car. In 1901, the company rolled out its first automobile, the Sunbeam-Mabley, in partnership with Maxwell Maberley-Smith. In 1909, the company rolled out the Sunbeam 14/20, which was the first model to include shaft-driven rear axles. During the First World War, the brand started manufacturing aircraft engines, but was not met with immediate success.
Following the First World War, in 1922, the company rolled out the overhead cam sports variants of the Sunbeam 16 and 24. This was followed by the 3-Litre Super Sports in 1925, which was Britain's first twin overhead camshaft engine production cars. During the Second World War and the Great Depression, the company's sales were affected. It was 1957, when the brand released the Alpine, which saw a change in its sales. In 1964, the company released the successful Sunbeam Tiger. The marque rolled out its final model, the Rootes-Arrow in 1967, Other models of the brand include Zulu, Saracen and Tartar.
