The AMC AMX was a two-seat grand tourer that was produced between 1968 and 1970. AMC was one of the major automotive firms in the United States. It was formed by the 1954 merger of Nash-Kelvinator corporation and Hudson Motor car company. The headquarters of AMC were located in Southfield, Michigan. AMC Pacer, Javelin, Alliance, AMX and Gremlin were some of the successful AMC models. The cars achieved the third highest sales figures in the U.S. during the years 1960 and 1961.

The AMX was one of the rarest muscle cars. It was different from other muscle cars because it had a short wheelbase. It was the only American- built, steel-bodied two-seater of that time. AMX provided competition to the Chevrolet Corvette, one of the famous two-seaters of this era.
