The Pontiac Solstice was a sports car manufactured by the Pontiac division of General Motors from 2005 to 2009. The Pontiac brand was a division of the General Motors (GM) family. It was founded by Edward Murphy in 1907 and purchased by General Motors in 1909. The company was headquartered in Detroit, Michigan. In 1926, Pontiac started releasing vehicles and it soon began outselling its parent company. Pontiac vehicles were widely recognized for their value, style and precise engineering. Owing to financial problems, GM discontinued the Pontiac brand in 2010. The Pontiac Grand Prix, Sunfire, LeMans, Ventura and Phoenix are some of the models of the brand.
The Pontiac Solstice was built on the GM Kappa platform and belonged to the class of roadsters and coupes. It was powered by a 2.4L Ecotec LE5 I4/2.0L Ecotec LNF I4 engine. It had a 5-speed Aisin AR5 manual or a 5-speed 5L40-E automatic transmission. The Solstice had an FMR layout and was offered in 2-door convertible and 2-door coupe body styles. In 2006, this car was proposed for the North American Car of the Year award and Design of the Year award from the AJAC.
