BuyAutoParts Remanufactured Manual Steering Gear Box

Thanks for the question. This is the correct steering gear box for your 1970 VW Bus. I cross referenced the number you provided 211415049FX and it matches our number 82-70184. All you have to do is click on the Add To Cart button and complete the checkout. Thanks!

Thank you for your inquiry. All our rebuilds are inspected and measured for OEM tolerances. If there is a component inside the box that does not meet the specific tolerance it requires, the component is replaced.

This gearbox matches OEM part number 211415049FX, which is close enough to your part number that this might be an updated version of your steering box. There are two different versions of this gearbox; one made in a Volkswagen factory, and one made by their supplier TRW. The gearbox cases will look a little different, but the mounting points and splines are identical; that could explain the slight part number discrepancy.

No, this only fits 1966-1972 models with casting number 211415049FX on the gearbox. If you find any casting numbers off your original gearbox, we can try looking them up to see if they match anything we have available.

This gearbox (82-70184) fits all 1966-1972 VW Bus with original casting number 211415049FX. We don't list anything for a casting number ending in 163. Either way, all the gearbox options will bolt in pretty much the same, they just have different steering ratios.

That means that your Bus still has the original gearbox; -X at the end of a part number is Volkswagen's code for a remanufactured part, so that's the part number you'd get from a VW dealer catalog (though I'm not sure a Volkswagen dealership would still carry parts for aircooled models)

The return window is 90 days according to our core policy, but we're usually not that strict about the return window as long the item you return is in good, rebuildable condition.

Tank you for your inquiry. Yes this will fit your bus. Part number 211415049F is a match.
