History of Hummer Trucks & Parts

Hummer was a former brand of SUVs and trucks that were first marketed in 1992 under AM General. The orginal Hummers were produced in 1983 after the United States Army contracted AM General to provide a High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV). The first contract resulted in over 70,000 units being delivered to the US Army in 1985. It was in the late 1980s that AM General planned on releasing a civilian version of the vehicle. In 1992, Hummer released the first vehicle in its range of civilian Hummers, the H1 which was based off the M998 Hummer. In 1999, AM General was sold to General Motors (GM) and under the new ownership, the next two modeis " the H2 and H3 " were released.

The H2, released in 2003 was slimmer than the H1. It was nominated for the American Truck of the Year in 2003. It was marketed as an off-road as well as a general-purpose vehicle. The H3 was released in 2005 as an SUV. In 2009, General Motors filed for bankruptcy and announced the discontinuation of the Hummer brand. Following its discontinuation, the brand was about to be sold to the China-based Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Company Ltd. However, the talks fell through and GM formally discontinued the brand in May, 2010. Popular models of the brand include the Humvee, H1, H2 and H3.
