+It is a hot summer day and the humidity outside is making everything feel like it is sticking to you. You are trying to avoid going outside. But today you have to go see your sister who lives an hour away. You get ready and head out into your BMW whose AC system works so well it feels like you are in an ice chest. Let’s take a look at your AC components and specifically your BMW A/C condenser.
Your BMW A/C condenser is an important component of your AC system. It works along with the compressor, evaporator, thermal expansion valve, and the drier or accumulator. The compressor is what takes the refrigerant in gas form and pressurizes it so it will cool the air. It will be run by an engine belt and uses an electrically operated clutch to turn the compressor on and off. This high-pressurized gas then goes to the condenser where it becomes a liquid. We will go more in depth into this process later on.
The evaporator takes in the cool liquid through its tubes before it gets pushed out to the passenger cabin. As the liquid warms up it turns back into gas. The job of the thermal expansion valve is to control the flow of the cold refrigerant to the evaporator in order to regulate how cold the air blowing out gets. The drier or accumulator is the safety net of the whole system. Its job is to protect the compressor from getting any liquid into it. The compressor can only pressurizes gas so any liquid that gets into it will damage it. So the drier or accumulator must catch any liquid that makes it back to the compressor.
The BMW AC condenser is shaped like a radiator but it is smaller. It is placed in front your vehicles main radiator and it also thinner. The job of the BMW air conditioning condenser is to release heat from the refrigerant absorbed while it was flowing through the condenser. As the gas refrigerant flows through the condenser and the heat is absorbed it cools down and turns back into a high-pressure liquid. Your BMW condenser can get damaged due to debris from outside getting trapped inside it. It could also get damaged from the metal debris of a broken compressor.
