Your Ring and Pinion Set for your vehicle can be
easily found using the Diff Wizard located below.

The Ring and Pinion Set is a part that transfers the power from the driveshaft to the drive axles of the rear wheels. It consists of a grooved ring and pinion that are attached to the rear axle assembly and the driveshaft, respectively. The pinion gear has fewer teeth and is smaller in diameter than the ring gear. The pinion gear is held in position inside the differential gearbox by a bearing. This bearing keeps the ring and pinion in contact with each other while also reducing friction. The ring gear is fitted at an angle of 90 degrees to the pinion.

When the engine is running, its power is transferred to the driveshaft via the transmission. The driveshaft transmits this power to the pinion gear. This makes the ring gear spin which in turn rotates the drive axles. This series of power transfer results in the turning of the automobile's wheels in the appropriate direction. The ratio of the teeth and groove size of the ring gear should be equal to that of the pinion gear for the proper functioning of the ring and pinion.

After years of usage, the ring and pinion may wear out due to heat and friction. A loose pinion bearing will cause a howling sound when the automobile is decelerated. A worn ring and pinion will emit a howling noise accompanied by a whirring or rumbling sound, while driving. A bad ring and pinion should be replaced at the earliest to avoid any possible damage to your transmission.
