AEM Induction Systems is a manufacturer of air filters and air intake systems based in Riverside, California. Its line of performance parts includes air bypass valves, exhaust systems, intercoolers and strut bars. The company was established in 1987 by John Concialdi (J.C.) and Bob Sullivan. It originally focused on tuning vintage and street racing automobiles. The company's expertise in tuning parts helped it develop one of the first Packaged Air Induction Systems. In 1994, AEM released Packaged Air Induction Kits for the Honda CRX that allowed customers to upgrade the air intake systems on their own.
The brand has been a pioneer in introducing new technologies in air intake systems. AEM is one of the first firms to build induction systems featuring specific-dimensioned tubes. The company was the first to coin the phrase “cold air intake” when it discovered that cool air can increase the power generated by the engine. AEM is also the first brand to manufacture dual-chamber intake kits. These air intake systems generated more power over a wide RPM range. The company also built one of the first hybrid induction systems designed for vehicles with engine swaps. The range of air intake systems produced by AEM comprises Electronically Tuned Intake (ETI) Systems, Brute Force Truck Air Intakes, Universal Cold Air Intakes and Dual Chamber Air Intakes. Furthermore, the brand offers air intake components such as aluminum tubes, couplers and adapters, brackets, hose clamps and mass air flow sensor (MAF) adapters.
Air bypass valves built by AEM are available in diameters of 2.25", 2.5", 2.75" and 3.0". Usually installed in the upper part of the air intake, these valves help keep the water away from the air filter when the filter is submerged in water. AEM's exhaust systems are built in two variations - Cat-Back and Axle-Back. These exhaust systems can be fitted in a range of vehicles including the Kia Soul, Honda CR-Z and Hyundai Genesis. The company's performance intercoolers have an improved core design allowing a seamless air flow inside the intercooler. Strut bars are components that assist in stabilizing the tops of the struts when the car is making sharp turns or rounding a corner. Besides serving the primary function of strut bars, AEM's bars also help reduce vibration and noise. The strut bars are available for various automobiles including the Mitsubishi Evolution, Honda Civic, Subaru Impreza WRX, Scion tC and Kia Forte Koup.
Cleaning the air filters on a regular basis is an integral part of car maintenance. AEM's filter minder gauges let the drivers know the current condition of the air filters. This alerts the drivers to clean or replace their filters, whenever required, preventing costly repairs for the engine components. The filter minder gauges either come with a dash-mounted gauge or remote-mounted gauge.
