The Mercury Topaz is a compact car produced between 1983 and 1994. Established in 1938, Mercury was a division of the Ford Motor Company. The company was founded by Edsel Ford and its headquarters were located in Michigan, United States. The Mercury Eight, launched in the 1930s, was the first car manufactured by the brand. The 1960s saw the introduction of two cars: the Comet and Meteor. The Comet was a compact stylish vehicle while the Meteor was a small-sized car. A new model, the Cougar, was unveiled in 1967. The Capri, Bobcat and Cougar XR-7 were released in the 1970s. The company's sales surged in the 1980s. In the '90s, minivans were added to the brand's line of vehicles. Mercury was phased out in January, 2011.
The Mercury Topaz was rolled out in two generations: 1984–1987 and 1988–1994. It was available in sedan and coupe body styles. Topaz cars were built based on the Ford CE14 platform. They were offered in seven trims: L, GS, GS-AWD, LS, LS-AWD, XR5 and LTS. The Topaz was equipped with a 2.0L/2.3L/3.0L engine.
