Daewoo Motors was an automobile manufacturer that was part of the Daewoo Group, a South Korean “chaebol”. It had its headquarters in Bupyeong, Incheon. It was established as National Motor in 1937, and later changed its name to Saenara Motor in 1962. In 1965, the company entered into a collaboration with Toyota and it released a number of cars under the Toyota brand. A joint venture with General Motors Korea (GMK) followed in 1972, under which the brand released the Royale, a mid-size car. The Daewoo Group acquired the company in 1982, and the brand changed its name to Daewoo Motors. The LeMans, a compact car, was the first model manufactured by the brand in 1986.

The company released the Lanos, a subcompact car, in 1996. Daewoo discontinued the Royale Series in 1993. It refreshed the design and offered the new design as the Prince. The Prince was also released under two other variants: Brougham and Super Salon. 1997 saw the release of the Nubira, a compact car and the Leganza, a mid-size sedan. Daewoo's most popular model, the Matiz, was released in 1998. The company ran into financial troubles in 1999. It was bought by General Motors (GM) and changed its name to GM Daewoo. Under the new ownership, the brand released the Rezzo, a compact multi-purpose vehicle (MPV). Daewoo became defunct in 2011.
