More info

The Heater Core is a part of your car's heating system that helps in keeping the passenger cabin warm. It is located under the dashboard of the vehicle. The car's heating system makes use of the heat generated by the engine to warm the passenger cabin. The heater core is essentially a small radiator that draws heat from the coolant that flows from the engine through it. The core consists of a conductive metal tubing (usually aluminum or brass) fitted with cooling fins to increase the surface area. This arrangement radiates the heat of the coolant that flows through the core. The blower fan blows this heat out into the air vents in the passenger cabin.

A broken or clogged heater core will prevent the coolant from flowing through it, thereby causing the car's heating system to fail. If you do not check your coolant system or change the coolant regularly, it could lead to clogging in the heater core and a reduction in the heating capacity. A broken core can also result in the coolant or antifreeze leaking through the air vents into the passenger cabin. A heater core can rupture due to excessive electrolysis, causing coolant to spray directly into the passenger cabin with white smoke.

Some signs that indicate a bad heater core include a smell of leaking antifreeze coming from the vents or the windshield fogging when you turn your heater on. If your car radiator is on, but you feel no heat coming in from the vents, it is a possibility that your heater core has gone bad. A clogged or damaged heater core should be replaced at the earliest to avoid any further damage to your car's cooling and heating systems. At Buy Auto Parts we stock a wide variety of heater cores for every car make and model.
