The idle air control (IAC) valve in a car controls the idle speed through the throttle body (conical valve). IAC is an electrically operated valve which monitors and manipulates the amount of controlled air moving around the throttle plate. It allows air to bypass through the throttle plate in a fuel injected engine to regulate engine idle speed. It helps to maintain a stable idle speed when heavy mechanical or electrical loads are added to the engine. It is located under the Triton Plastic cover in the middle of the engine compartment.
The idle air control valve is managed by the electronic control module of the engine, which calculates the position of the IAC valve. The IAC valve operates and adjusts constantly while the engine is running to help prevent the engine from raising and falling.
